Symphony at the Gardens 2023

Symphony of the Redwoods and the Latino Coalition of the Mendocino Coast (La Coalición Latina de la Costa de Mendocino) are proud to present a set of bilingual outdoor concerts at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. At noon, Elena Casanova and Friends will perform chamber music for piano and strings. Pieces will include works by G. Faure', W.A. Mozart, and J. Brahms with a delicate flavor of Cuban beats. Then at 2:30 pm, Mariachi Cantares de Mi Tierra, from the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts will perform a program celebrating the culture of Mariachi. The programs will be presented in English and Spanish. Beverages and light snacks will also be available at concession tables. The concerts will be professionally mic-d to enhance the outdoor music listening experience. There will be a limited amount of chairs available on a first-come-first-served basis and plenty of opportunities to spread out on the grass while listening to this great music.

The concerts are free to attend with the cost of regular Gardens admission. No special event ticket is needed. Discounted admission is available for Mendocino County locals ($10), children ($0 - $8), and anyone with an EBT or WIC card (Museums for All rate $2). Elena Casanova and Friends, 12:00PM

Elena Casanova on piano will bring her friends; Rachelle Berthelsen-Davis, violin; Beth Heid, viola and Gwyneth Davis, cello to the Mendocino Coast. Together they will perform works by G. Faure', W.A. Mozart, J. Brahms including lighter works perfectly fitted for a mid-day concert in the Gardens.

Elena Casanova, a native of Cuba, is a pianist whose musical training included study at the Alejandro Music Conservatory in Havana, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She graduated with a B.Mus. in piano performance from the University of Redlands in California. Although she enjoys performing the traditional repertoire as a soloist and is an accompanist for recitals and music productions, her major preoccupation and passion is in promoting the music of her native country. She is a frequent performer, known for her impeccable playing of Cuban, classical, and jazz music.Ms. Casanova will bring her friends; Rachelle Berthelsen-Davis, violin; Beth Heid, viola and Gwyneth Davis, cello for this special concert. Together they will perform works by G. Faure', W.A. Mozart, J. Brahms including lighter works perfectly fitted for a mid-day concert in the Gardens.

 

Mariachi Cantares de Mi Tierra, 2:30PM

Led by music instructor José Soto, the LBC Mariachi Ensemble is composed of up to thirty students, ages 10-17 coming from Santa Rosa and Cloverdale. Established in 2017, these talented students are focused on musicianship, technical skills, and stage presence while celebrating the culture of Mariachi. They have participated in master classes with professional musician Jeff Nevin and his Mariachi Champana as well as award-winning Voces de Jalisco. They have performed on the main stage at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts to a full theater, performed at Fiesta de Independencia for over 4,000 people and have participated in numerous concerts throughout Sonoma County including the Sesquicentennial Celebration at Courthouse Square in 2018.

The Symphony of the Redwoods presents these concerts as a gift to the community and the concerts are free with garden admission. Light snacks, coffee, tea and wine will be available at the event.
